About Cynthia Wyatt
Musician, writer and teacher Cynthia Wyatt has taken her harps into recording studios, onto concert stages, and into private gatherings and institutions of worship over the past several decades. The idea that music has healing powers is often reflected in her poems, as is the subject of love: Her first poem, a love poem, was published in Ladies’ Home Journal when she was sixteen. Since then, her poetry has appeared in numerous small literary journals and anthologies.
In her musical life, she has played on countless recordings in Nashville, Tennessee from a wide range of genres -- fast food commercials, bedroom ballads, Christmas albums, television specials at the Grand Ole Opry House and movie scores. Her own recordings, Windswept Melodies and Harp Traditions, mark her turn towards the rich world of Celtic music.
She was educated at the Juilliard School and studied with Marcel Grandjany and Abraham Rosen. She was a Comparative Literature major at Queens College and earned her Master’s degree in English Literature at the City University of New York. She also earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing from Warren Wilson College.
As Assistant Professor of English, she taught Literature and Creative Writing at Volunteer State Community College for over two decades. Previously she taught English at Berklee College of Music in Boston.
Her mother, Rebecca Lynch, was a professional violinist working and recording with artists ranging from Frank Sinatra to Neil Young, whose recordings earned her a gold record.
Author and flutist Charles Wyatt, her husband of thirty-eight years, passed away in 2021. Their son, Alexander, carries on the family tradition as a professional guitarist. She is also the proud mother of Ben Reynolds and Ted Lothstein.
